Welcome to Canyon View!
Dear Canyon View Families,
As I begin my second year as Principal of Canyon View Elementary School, I want to share how grateful I am to be part of this incredible school community. It has been an honor to work alongside such dedicated educators, supportive families, and inspiring students. I look forward to building on the strong foundation we’ve established together and continuing the important work of helping every child thrive.
On behalf of our outstanding Canyon View staff, I warmly welcome both new and returning families to the upcoming school year. At Canyon View, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Our team is deeply committed to knowing and supporting every student—not just academically, but as a whole child.
We believe that a strong partnership between school and home is essential for student success. Your involvement, encouragement, and collaboration make a real difference. I invite you to stay connected and engaged in your child’s learning journey this year and beyond.
Academically, our focus remains on providing a rich and well-rounded curriculum that prepares students for the future. We use a balanced literacy approach that builds strong foundational skills in phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension. In math, students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through hands-on, engaging lessons. Differentiated instruction ensures that we meet every learner where they are and help them grow.
Our students also benefit from project-based learning experiences that incorporate technology and STEM concepts like coding and robotics. In addition, we offer specialized instruction in Spanish, art, music, and physical education—supporting both academic and creative development.
We are equally committed to our students' social and emotional growth. Through our schoolwide PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) framework, we nurture a positive, inclusive school climate where kindness, respect, and responsibility are modeled and celebrated.
I encourage all families to get involved with our vibrant Family Faculty Organization (FFO), which plays a vital role in supporting our school community. Look for the Canyon View FFO posts on ParentSquare, social media, and the website to stay informed about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities. Your child’s teacher will also use ParentSquare to share classroom updates, photos, schedules, and to coordinate volunteers and conferences.
It is a joy to serve as your principal and to continue partnering with you to ensure every Canyon View Coyote feels known, challenged, and supported. Here’s to another amazing year of learning, growing, and celebrating all that makes Canyon View such a special place.
Warmly,
Sandy Herfkens
