Miler’s Club

Group of students running for fun

Canyon View Miler’s Club is a fun, voluntary activity for students in 1st through 5th grade during lunch recess. This club is about having fun while running or walking. It is not about being the fastest, but about being part of an organization that recognizes and enjoys the benefits of physical activity.

How does it work?!

  • Our PE teacher will set up the course along the outside of the big field. As the students complete one lap he/she receives a hole punch on their miler’s card. Students will be able to run/walk for about 15-20 minutes during their recess. Students will NOT be timed based on miles completed.
  • FFO volunteers help track the laps students run.
  • There will be a raffle at the end of each recess for students to have an opportunity to earn a small prize for participating that day.

Why Participate?!

  • Running and walking are both healthy and fun!
  • Exercise has been linked to improved academic performance, classroom behavior, and self-esteem.

Students will be recognized for their accomplishments on the PE bulletin board and during our quarterly Spirit Assemblies. For every 5 miles a student completes they will get a sneaker on the board with their name and how many total miles they have done!

Monday Extended Day STEM Activities

Two students connecting wires

Monday Extended Day STEM activities that are themed and include the whole school. This past year, we had themes like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Rodeo Day with line dancing, and a math extension with card games.

Student Advisory Board (SAB)

Great Leaders don't tell you what to do, They show you how it's done

Canyon View promotes student leadership through its Student Advisory Board (SAB). Students choose to join the board, which meets on campus before, during, and after school. Fellow board members elect SAB officers. The purpose of SAB is to empower student leaders to make improvements to our campus. Initiatives such as our school-wide recycling program, character education presentations, and our Adopt-a-Family holiday project are all supported and led by our SAB members. We firmly believe in having students take ownership for the success of their school, and SAB is an important part of our educational organization.

Tech Club

Canyon View’s Tech Club is comprised of 5th grade students who are responsible for producing our video morning announcements each day. Under the guidance of our Tech Staff, teams of students are tasked with delivering important daily news and upcoming events relevant to the school and fellow students. Each student plays an important role providing their unique personality and professionalism to ensure an informative but also fun news segment. Students are encouraged to provide ideas on how to present particular segments while the use of props and green screen allow for more imaginative and creative possibilities.
