1.) Application - This is completed online by parents anytime during the open enrollment application window (November 1 - January 31).  A separate application must be completed for each student.  The link to the 2026-2027 school year open enrollment application will become available on the district website (www.cfsd16.org) on November 1, 2025, under Parents, select Open Enrollment. The 2026-27 Open Enrollment (Out of Area) Application is not available prior to November 1, 2025.

2.) Notification - Applications received by January 31 will be notified by email after January 31 but no later than March 1.  Applications received after January 31, will be notified by email in a timely manner, but no later than two weeks before the first day of school.  If your student is accepted, then the notification will include instructions to complete online registration. (This is the step that requires a ParentVUE username and password).  The status notification is emailed from the address:  [email protected] or [email protected].  We have heard from families that sometimes this email goes directly into a Spam, Junk, or Promotions folder instead of the Inbox, so it is a good idea to set up both addresses in your Contacts.

3.) Registration - Registration is complete when the online registration has been submitted using the online registration portal according to the instructions provided by the Superintendent's email notification of open enrollment acceptance.  This includes providing all required registration documents to the school of acceptance by the deadline provided on the notification, and the school verifying completion of the online registration process. Online registration should not be completed by an open enrollment family until they have applied for and have been accepted through the open enrollment application process described above.
