Principals Welcome

Dear Students and Families,

On behalf of the Canyon View staff, I want to welcome each and every one of our new and returning families to the new school year! As we begin the new school year, we want to relay to our families how important relationship building is at Canyon View, and our staff is committed to building meaningful and lasting relationships with each and every one of our children and parents.

At Canyon View, and throughout CFSD, we are committed to continually improving our instructional practices in order to meet every child’s academic, social and emotional needs, while preparing them for college and career pathways. Our goal is for each child to meet the challenges of an uncertain future, be prepared for careers that currently do not exist, and become lifelong learners who demonstrate good character on a consistent basis.

The Canyon View staff is dedicated to ensuring that all students can perform to the best of their ability. Therefore, teachers work diligently to provide a balanced literacy program that emphasizes the development of phonemic awareness, vocabulary skills, fluency, comprehension and critical reading skills. Math instruction will continue to focus on complex problem solving, while developing and strengthening our students’ foundational computation skills. The Eight Mathematical Practices will continue to be embedded in teachers’ instruction and students’ mathematical discussions and problem solving strategies. In both subject areas, differentiated instruction allows our students to work at their instructional levels with the appropriate amount of scaffolded support and extension.

Project-based learning opportunities across the content areas, the infusion of technology and STEM concepts (including robotics for grades K-5) across the curricular areas, and highly engaging Spanish, art, music, band, choir, orchestra and physical education lessons round out the instructional program. In addition, a library that contains award-winning titles ensures that students are reading every chance they can, in keeping with our intense focus on literacy.

Along with our academic emphasis is our commitment to provide a school program that creates a balance between the academic and the social/emotional responsibilities that are part of being a member of a school community. Toward that end, we follow the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), which promotes a positive approach to student-to-student and student-to-teacher interactions, thus enabling maximum time to be spent on instruction.

Also, members of your Family Faculty Organization (FFO) have been busy getting ready for another fantastic school year. They would like everyone to be reminded to stay informed by becoming a member of their group on Bloomz. It is the best way to keep up-to-date with all that is happening around campus.

Finally, the Canyon View teachers will again be using Bloomz to communicate with their sets of parents. Bloomz is the mobile and web app that has all the features our teachers need to connect, communicate and coordinate with parents.  Teachers’ usage of Bloomz will range from sending weekly communications and quick updates, photo and video sharing, calendar coordination, to scheduling volunteers and conferences.  More detailed information will be shared by your child’s homeroom teacher in the coming days.

Again, welcome to the beginning of what is sure to be a very exciting and rewarding school year!

Sincerely,

Rob Henikman
